Job Description

We are seeking Roadway Construction Inspectors to join our Construction Management/Construction Inspection practice team in Duluth, Georgia. Come join us!

This is an advanced journey to advanced level inspector position technical work supporting engineers in functional areas of roadway and bridge construction acceptance inspection and materials sampling and testing verification. Employee supports engineers and lead inspectors in the management of construction activities on large complex construction projects. Work usually involves a significant amount of decision making and use of judgment and may include providing work directions to others. This position requires some night and weekend availability.

Core Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent, standardized, and moderately complex inspections of roadway and structural construction projects to verify compliance with contract requirements, plans, and specifications.
  • Inspect and test construction materials, including soils, aggregates, asphalt, and concrete, to ensure quality standards and proper mix designs are met.
  • Evaluate pavement placement activities, including spreading, rolling, alignment, depth, and compaction, to ensure conformance with project requirements.
  • Inspect roadway and structural construction work to confirm compliance with approved plans, specifications, and applicable standards.
  • Monitor structural construction activities, including foundation excavation, culvert installation, piling operations, reinforcing steel placement, structural steel erection, concrete placement, and backfilling.
  • Monitor the installation and maintenance of traffic control and erosion control measures to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform field measurements, calculations, and quantity verification to support contract administration and pay item documentation.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and organized project records, reports, and inspection documentation.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

You’ll thrive here if you have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field, and two (2) years of progressive transportation or construction inspection experience; or
  • Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology and five (5) years of progressive transportation or construction inspection experience; or
  • High school diploma or GED and seven (7) years of progressive transportation or construction inspection experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and directly related experience.

Preferred Certifications

  • GSWCC Level 1A (Erosion and Sediment Control) Certification.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of highway and transportation construction specifications, standards, materials, methods, equipment, and accepted construction practices.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply construction plans, contract documents, specifications, inspection procedures, and related project documentation.
  • Proficiency in mathematical calculations used in transportation and highway construction, including algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric applications.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate inspection records and project documentation.
  • Ability to work independently in the field while effectively communicating with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid Georgia driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
  • Commitment to following Atlas health, safety, and quality policies and procedures.
  • Ability to perform field work in varying weather and construction site conditions.
  • GDOT Worksite Erosion Control Supervisor (WECS) Certification.
  • GDOT Field Concrete Technician Certification or ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Certification.
