Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Review project invoices & track deliverable schedules for complex projects.
  • Interpret and implement environmental permits, approvals, and commitments for complex capital projects, including:
    • Clean Water Act Sections 404 and 401
    • ESA consultation and compliance
    • Critical Areas Ordinances and local permits
    • Fish-passage and mitigation requirements
    • Stormwater permits, SWPPP development, and erosion/sediment control
  • Develop, implement, and manage Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs), permit compliance matrices, and environmental commitment tracking systems consistent with environmental permits and approvals.
  • Conduct construction site inspections and environmental compliance monitoring.
  • Support design-build and progressive design-build delivery by identifying environmental risks early and assisting project managers with identifying recommendations and field-ready solutions.
  • Prepare compliance documentation, inspection reports, corrective action plans, and agency correspondence.
  • Contribute to QA/QC processes and continuous improvement of environmental compliance workflows for fish passage projects.

You’ll thrive here if you

  • Bachelors of Science in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Botany, Geology, Engineering or other related fields.
  • Three (3) to seven (7) years of professional experience in environmental monitoring, stormwater compliance, natural resource permitting, heavy civil construction or another related field.
  • Strong knowledge of state/federal regulations and environmental best practices related to stormwater management and construction impacts to sensitive areas.
  • Familiarity with complementary disciplines - ecological restoration, wetland delineation and sensitive area regulations, hazardous and contaminated media containment/management, arboriculture, fisheries biology, and/or endangered species act expertise - is desired.
  • Highly motivated individual, able to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Familiar with developing cost estimates and managing projects to meet budgets.
  • Strong technical expertise in one or more of the following:
    • Construction environmental compliance
    • Stormwater and erosion control
    • Wetlands and waters permitting
    • ESA compliance and biological monitoring
    • Fish passage and mitigation implementation
    • Contaminated media management
  • Working knowledge of WSDOT environmental requirements, specifications, and construction compliance expectations.

  • Compensation: $100k - $114k annual salary
    The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the state’s law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
