Environmental Scientist

Department: Atlas Technical Organization
Location: Tempe, AZ

We are seeking an Environmental Scientist (EIR Scientist 1) to join our Tempe, AZ team! Come join us!

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performance of site investigations to support environmental projects, including the collection of samples and environmental data.
  • Conduct and document field activities such as soil, soil vapor and groundwater sampling, installation of soil borings and monitoring wells, and tank excavations and/or removals.
  • Oversee drilling activities and log soil samples.
  • Compile detailed, well-organized data/field notes and photographs.
  • Prepare chain-of-custody forms for analytical testing and record survey data on approved forms.
  • Travel locally to project sites in Phoenix and throughout Arizona using a company vehicle.
  • Willingness to work outside in various weather conditions, from the snow in Northern Arizona to hot summers throughout Arizona.
  • Candidate must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment weighing up to 50 lbs, several times per day.
  • Implement Atlas’ health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Promote a safety-first culture that values proactive measures & continuous improvement.
  • Perform field work related to environmental, remediation, due diligence, industrial hygiene, and Brownfields projects located throughout Arizona.
  • Management and analysis of sampling data, including summary tables, result interpretation, and sample location maps.
  • Positively interact with internal and external clients, service partners, and contractors.
  • Preparing technical reports including but not limited to proposals, work plans, environmental reports, permit applications, and health & safety plans.
  • Organizing and prioritize a diverse workload; maintain accurate records.
  • Willingness to be cross trained for other environmental assignments, as needed.

Minimum requirements:

  • BS in Geology, Engineering, Environmental Science, or other Science related degree.
  • 1-5 years of related environmental consulting experience
  • Ability to write, work effectively on multiple assignments, prioritizing activities, and delivering on tight deadlines.
  • Capable of working in a team-orientated environment, independently, and under direct supervision of others.
  • Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record.
  • Commitment to safety.

Technical requirements:

  • Preferred candidate will be 40-hour HAZWOPER trained.
  • Willingness to learn United States Environmental Protection Agency and State of Arizona environmental regulations and standard field procedures and methodologies related to site investigation, remediation, industrial hygiene, and/or environmental compliance projects.
  • Candidate should be proficient with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) and possess good communication skills.
  • Candidate will have strong technical, analytical and research skills.
  • Candidate must possess the ability to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision and as part of a professional team to meet organization and project objectives.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Other miscellaneous qualities:

  • Ability to travel, primarily within Arizona (average 80%).
  • Dependable, organized, detail oriented, and resourceful.
  • Positive, flexible team-oriented approach, with the willingness and desire to work as part of a multi-disciplinary professional team.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently.
