GIS Survey Field Technician

Atlas is seeking a versatile GIS Survey Field Technician to support utility inventory and assessment projects with our Atlanta, GA team, with the flexibility to assist land survey crews on future projects. This full-time role combines GIS-based data collection with traditional land surveying tasks, offering cross training and long-term growth opportunities.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform utility inventory and condition assessments
  • Collect data using mobile mapping applications and GNSS receivers
  • Assist survey crews with boundary, topographic, and construction staking
  • Set up and operate total stations, levels, and other survey instruments
  • Perform rodman duties, including holding rods, setting points, and clearing lines
  • Maintain and calibrate survey equipment
  • Document field activities and ensure data accuracy
  • Follow all safety protocols

Minimum requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED -- some college preferred.
  • Candidate must have a clean driving record.
  • Familiarity with Smart Phones/Tablets and mobile applications.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions; frequent walking, bending, and lifting

Technical requirements:

  • GIS - ESRI products experience (ArcGIS Online, Field Maps, Survey123 etc..) is a plus.
  • Trimble, Leica, and EoS GNSS recievers experience is a plus.
  • Utility pole camera operation experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with NASSCO principals for assessing stormwater assets
  • Familiarity with traditional Land Surveying and Subsurface Utility Engineering field work is a plus.
  • Ability to travel in the Southeast outside of Metro Atlanta is a plus.
