Job Description

The HMA Laboratory Supervisor (Lab Tech 2) prepares samples, performs tests, and records results by following specific step-by-step instructions, under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager. The Lab Technician ll is accountable to the Laboratory Manager, senior MTI management, Quality Manager, other and to the project client, for the accuracy of tests performed and project deadlines, and for the efficiency with which the department operates.

  • Prepares for and takes written and practical certification examinations
  • May help train and/or oversee other Lab personnel in testing procedures.
  • Uses complex Equipment

You’ll thrive here if you have

  • WAQTC or ODOT certifications in Embankment, Asphalt, and Aggregate or the NICET Level I for Concrete, Soils, and Asphalt.
  • Ability to perform concrete and masonry testing above and would be able to perform standard soil testing to include proctors, sieves, block moisture, etc.
  • Basic knowledgeable of construction materials and ability to work safely with materials and laboratory equipment.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, laboratory testing procedures for soils, asphalt, concrete and masonry
  • Good English usage and technical writing skills.
  • Computer literacy in MS Windows (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to interpret and perform complex procedures
  • Good technical math skills; ability to perform complex calculations
  • Ability to locate, read, comprehend and follow highly technical information and procedures
  • Professional demeanor and personal integrity and ability to make project-related decisions impartially
  • Self-motivated; able to work with minimal supervision
  • Detail oriented, logical and analytical
  • Strong work and business ethic; customer-service oriented
  • Ability to work with accuracy in a fast-paced environment; ability to multi-task
  • Amiable, work well with other employees and construction-related personnel
  • Determination to further his/her technical knowledge through acquiring professional certifications
