Job Description

Atlas is looking for a Certified Weld Inspector for full-time inspections on large full-time projects and/or continuous need for smaller intermittent projects. The ideal candidate will have an active CWI as well as NDT certifications. Open to candidates willing to travel long term and candidates preferring to remain within the local area of the advertised location (traveling within about 5-hour radius with some overnight work).

Core Responsibilities

  • Perform visual weld inspections and construction quality assurance testing on a variety of infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications

  • Accurately document inspection results, including detailed daily field reports, photos, and observations that support clear communication with clients and project teams

  • Review and interpret construction drawings, welding procedures, and project requirements to verify work meets quality and safety standards

  • Identify non-conforming work, communicate findings clearly, and support resolution through collaboration with contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders

  • Follow and actively promote Atlas safety standards in all field activities, recognizing hazards and taking ownership of safe work practices

  • Travel to project sites as needed, supporting both long-term assignments and shorter-term local or regional projects depending on business needs

You’ll thrive here if you have

  • Current AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) certification and hands-on experience performing field inspections in construction or infrastructure environments

  • Strong working knowledge of welding processes, inspection techniques, and applicable codes or standards (AWS, AISC, or similar)

  • Proven ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and welding procedure documentation with a high level of accuracy

  • Experience in construction quality assurance, materials testing, or inspection roles where documentation and accountability were critical

  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to document findings and explain technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • A strong safety mindset, consistently following procedures and taking initiative to address risks in dynamic field environments

  • Flexibility to travel regionally (including occasional overnight stays) or support local projects, depending on your preference and project needs

  • Basic computer proficiency (Word, Excel, digital reporting tools) to complete and submit field documentation efficiently

  • (Preferred) NDT Level II certification—especially Ultrasonic Testing—and/or additional certifications such as ACI, NICET, or ICC
